Shipwreck the Kiekuut

The Wreck The Kiekuut

Explore the surroundings

Wrak De Kiekuut was once a working ship of sand mining company Smals. After being decommissioned, it was sunk as a diving object. The wreck lies at approximately 10 to 12 meters deep and, thanks to its robust hull and intact structure, is an intriguing wreck to explore. Meanwhile, it is covered with algae and colonies of small organisms, providing a rich underwater life.

Access & Facilities
Access to the diving site is possible via the parking lot of the adjacent restaurant. From there, it is just a short walk to the water. The restaurant also serves as a meeting place for divers to chat afterwards.

Underwater Objects and Navigation
In the vicinity of the wreck, lines are stretched between various objects, including car tires and concrete blocks. This facilitates navigation and makes it a suitable place for training dives. The objects also serve as shelters for fish and other aquatic animals.

Flora & Fauna
The wreck attracts many fish species such as perch, pike, carp, and bream. Pikes are often observed near the bow. The bottom is covered with waterweed, hornwort, and pondweed, providing oxygen-rich water and visibility that often ranges from 5 to 10 meters.

Safety & Diving Conditions
The Kraaijenbergse Plassen generally have calm water conditions with little current. Visibility varies by season but can be very good under favorable conditions. As the lake is also used by other water sports enthusiasts, using a diving buoy is mandatory. Do not enter the wreck without experience with wreck penetration.

Conclusion
Wrak De Kiekuut is an asset for biodiversity in the Kraaijenbergse Plassen and an interesting diving site for both recreational and experienced divers. The combination of the historic wreck, training opportunities, and rich underwater life makes it a beloved destination for those who love underwater adventure.
