In 2014, Fred and Arda van der Valk (third generation) turned their dream and passion into reality by creating a modest vineyard here in Cuijk. The one-hectare estate consists of 1500 vines spread over two plots around the hotel.
Three years later in 2017, the first harvest was organized with family and volunteers, truly handcrafted and artisanal. A few months later, the first Terra Ceuclum bottles were bottled. This was followed by a meticulous process to elevate the wine to the next level, a suitable task for Arda as a wine connoisseur. The skeptics gave way to praise. And in 2018, the hard work was rewarded with the gold medal at the AWC competition in Vienna (silver in 2020 and in 2022).
The Terra Ceuclum wine is made with the Solaris grape. The name solaris is derived from the word solar (sun). It is a grape variety that ripens early. This ensures that the grape develops enough sugar for the taste and alcohol and naturally has little acidity. This combination of factors is ideal for vineyards in northern wine regions. The Solaris is also a grape that has rapid leaf growth, which means it requires intensive maintenance. This grape is also a suitable variety for Fred and Arda, known as hard workers.
The Terra Ceuclum Solaris is a dry, full-bodied wine with aromas of ripe fruit and flowers with a fresh long finish. It is delightful as an aperitif and pairs beautifully with white meat, fish, and summer salads.
